May 2nd, 9 AM - noon PDT: Arboretum Work Bee in Portland
- Eric: We could do little Skype calls that day and also on May 9th, so we can each report on our events
- Ben: Or we could do a check-in with our phones from the events themselves (using Skype or Google Hangouts)
Ritual ideas
- Probably not Beltane-based since that usually involves a bonfire … the trees wouldn't like that!
- Picnic lunch that somehow includes Eric (needs to start no later than noon due to scheduling)
- Food theme: tree fruit and tree nuts?
- Eric: cut the fruit into the shapes of small animals to start celebrating Diversitas?
- Ben: We should talk about evolution

Summer Solstice
Camping at Smith Rock the night of June 20th, watching PSAS rocket launch
- Close to Bend, but very dark compared to Portland and Redmond
- Could also camp at Brothers, at the launch site … super dark at night, but also pretty close to Bend, meaning Smith Rock is probably fine
- But Brandon decided that there's no real advantage to Smith Rock

Kim Stanley Robinson
Ironically, Kim Stanley Robinson, one of the most famous science-fiction authors to write about Mars, expresses impatience with such notions. Given the poisonous atmosphere, he says, speaking by phone from his home in California, he can’t understand why the lunacy of settling Mars—at least anytime in the next, say, 10,000 years—“isn’t just as obvious as the nose on your face.”
