### Opening Blessing
As we come together, may we find within ourselves and within our group the resources we need to be who we aspire to be. May this call advance the work, may it bring life, may we find our enduring connection to all, may we hasten the Great Birthing. -- Blessed Be

### Review Shiny Green Festival
These were great, let’s be sure to keep these elements if/when we do it again:
- Hiking
- Water (this time we did Poet’s Beach)
- Halsteads
- Drumming the Eons (at council crest or some other awesome location)
- Hemisphere
- Delivered Dish (for small catering needs)
- Hold during a dance festival (for Michelle)
Things to do next time that we didn't do this time:
- Providence Bridge Pedal
- Visit OMSI
- Get Steven Wolfe and others (may help to schedule at a less vacation-heavy time of year)
- A session at Marquam Shelter
- Sessions in pedal bikes that take up to 6 people on the waterfront
- More participatory/hands-on sessions involving some long-term project, e.g. greenhouses, robots, Kickstarter design
- Ritual to honor our losses (perhaps belongs at the winter solstice?)
- Try to balance out sessions by people who tend to talk a lot with discussions where it's easier for everyone to contribute (may not be a big issue since conversations on the trail were more like the latter)
Venues we liked/didn’t like:
- DeWeese classroom … expensive, but nice to have the indoor space … probably worth it for midsize (12-20) gatherings
- 4T
- Vietnam Memorial … pretty, has sun and shade, hills are a little steep
- Council Crest … great views and some shade, but hard to do both at once ... interesting because highest point in Portland … crowded
- Food Carts … good place to get lunch, but not a great place to talk … perhaps combine with Director Park next time or just get lunch at Director Park?
- Poet's Beach … a bit noisy, but a good place to relax, cool off, and have fun
- Grotto … beautiful, but a little shush-y … not completely comfortable taking over a location for an in-depth session … they do have a conference center, investigate whether we could use it
Other thoughts:
- Brandon … didn’t really seem like a festival, more like our traditional Open Space … perhaps book a musical act or two and really make it a festival … because it was spread out it was more of a “team-building” exercise than a focused Open Space event … difficult to balance the wide range of expectations and needs
- Ben … it felt like we didn't make much progress on our focus question ... or on the movie project I wanted to launch there … but it still felt worthwhile
Are we going to try again with the Shiny Green Festival?
- Brandon … not ready to decide, still need to let my subconscious chew on it a bit more
- Ben … likewise, but leaning toward yes … I love the idea of Shiny Green and want to work on gathering more people who are also into it
Next steps or action items resulting from the event:
- Brandon … connect with Jacob
- Brandon … check with JH about what sort of event he craves
- Ben … continue developing the Hemisphere software
### Decide on theme for micro-quarter (aka eighth)
Candidates
- Portland, Gaia’s City … plan the campaign, something like the big Gaia statues (garden sized) and coupons at participating businesses (like Chinook Book) with 4T-like map that has self-guided tours with a particular flavor that people can follow from place to place
- Gaia statue selling website for normal and garden sized statues (we recently obtained wholesaler rights with Devera)
- Kickstarter to raise $4k for first batch of garden statues (we can be significant sponsors)
- Duckweed experiment 2
- Shiny Green Visions Kickstarter
We decided to pursue the following until the Fall Equinox: Kickstarter to raise $4k for first batch of garden statues (we can be significant sponsors)
- When we launch the kickstarter we want to have the following:
- Some social media/blogger commitments to advertise the kickstarter
- A solid video about the effort (including interviews with Oberon Zell, the Devera folks, and us … also a compelling story and a polished in-depth examination of a regular-size Gaia statue)
- Good written description of the campaign
- Well-chosen rewards for different levels of support
- An organization to receive the money and ensure delivery of the rewards
### Review Metrics
What are we trying to make progress on?
- Recruiting Solseed members
- Finding more Gaia's People or Shiny Green people
- Building out the content on Gaia Wiki (and maybe Spacewiki)
- Publishing media, e.g. books and music videos
- Building Gaia statues
- Building CELSS prototypes (e.g. the duckweed jars)
- Prototyping agro-forestry concepts (feeding people using forested land)
Perhaps we revisit our goals and try to line up the metrics with milestones toward those goals.
### Evaluation
- Brandon … I think we’ve made good progress and I kind of like a typing heavy call :-)
- Ben … I'm always nervous when you propose a major change of direction … thanks for giving me some options about where to go with it first!
### Closing Blessing
We connect with our deepest, most heartfelt yearnings, and we find work that daunts us. The call shows us we are not alone, and reminds us that allies will emerge. …And so we leave this call with a stubborn commitment to each other and to the work. May your week be stubborn, may your heart be stubborn, may the work flow around each of us … until we are together again.
