- Ben … Yawning too much, but making good progress on my novel, and I got some signatures yesterday.
- Eric … I’m very distracted tonight … I’m feeling down … I think it might be because I feel bad about not doing anything for Mother’s Day for Michelle or my Mum … largely that was because I went to my church in the hopes that somebody who’d signed up for Uniting with Unitarians would show up, but they didn’t … so I cheated Michelle out of Mother’s Day for nothing :-(

Shiny Green Tribal Convergence
Brandon is concerned that he's been getting fairly lukewarm responses from potential co-conveners
- Brandon: John Halstead may not invite his people or even come himself
- Brandon: Talked to Rewild Portland … didn’t get much excitement from WL
- Ben: we've never done this event and most people aren't familiar with us … expecting people to be really excited is unrealistic
- Brandon: Steve Wolfe has been lukewarm as well … need to contact him again
- Brandon: WL was concerned about the term "tribal" being offensive to indigenous people
- Brandon: "Kindred Quest" is a name a concert series was using
- Ben: simple solution is to just call it the "Shiny Green Convergence"
- Eric: Shiny Green Kindred Convergence?
Pitch ideas
- Ben: A gathering of people from close-knit groups (communities?) united by shared visions of a bright future.
- Eric: We could use a particular question to hone in on the problem; we could take something from the Pagan Community Statement on the Environment;
- Ben: "Are humans and our technology part of Nature (the natural web of life)?"
Theme
- What story do you aspire to live? (then unpack it)
- Ben: Do we want to add something that points at "tribes," e.g. "and who do you want to live it with?"
- Brandon: That might be too many shock levels … many people aren't familiar with the idea that they are living a story that frames everything, or that there's a dominant story
- Eric: I was lukewarm before I heard the argument about how many shock levels … I’ve heard from so many different quarters that we need to live a different story (Ishmael, Pagan Statement on the Environment, I’m Sorry Video, etc). There is this new story that we want to tell. How do we get people to not just write/read a book and then walk away? How do we get us to take up the torch rather than just paying lip service.

- We reject the consumption story that says we are all separate, broken, and in need of redemption. What is the story we want to live into instead?
- Our story tells us who we are and what we should aspire to. The dominant consumption story says we are separate and broken. What does a generative story that says we are connected look like?
- In these times, when natural systems seem to be going steeply downhill because of our society's dominant story of endless growth in a human economy somehow separate from nature, how can we tell a new story that leads to a bright future for all life?
- How can we retell the story that defines our culture so that individuals see themselves as a functioning part of Earth’s biosphere? Can we retell the story such that humanity sees itself a species acting within the biosphere when we build cities, grow crops and even launch rockets?”
Opportunity cost
- Brandon is concerned that this may not be the best place to spend our resources right now … as opposed to things with much lower cost, like Ben working on his novel
- Ben points out that we can lower the opportunity cost without needing to flip-flop on this again, by paring down to a 1-day prototype event or something along those lines.
- Eric can't contribute much money
- Brandon was thinking more of the time and effort
- Brandon suggests an alternative of just doing our typical kind of Open Space event with new branding, to see if people are more interested in participating in our thing rather than having the added cost of making it their thing too

Evaluation
- Eric: I am feeling a lot of uncertainty and … I would love to have Kindred be something that sparks this year and grows forth … And I don’t feel like I’m making that happen, I’m just wishing for it … I can understand how you who are trying to make that happen and not necessarily having success might not want to do that … there is a lot to think about
- Ben: I was thinking we were leaning toward having the new name being a religion and now I have a whole lot to think about
- Brandon: I feel kind of unsure but I don’t want to flip flop again; I want to find a way to make August a successful event for us even if it isn’t super Kindredy.
Closing Blessing
We close this circle having considered deeply our commitment to the future that we aspire to be a part of. The commitment has only been strengthened by the doubt and questions that we have asked.
