Service rotation: Eric, Shelley, Brandon, Ben

May 24 Service: 9:00 am PDT (12:00 EDT) (Eric)(Third week of the fourth liturgical season)

It’s first-come-first-served, but Brandon doesn’t think that will be a problem if we get there on Thursday
We could also stay in cabins or the lodge starting on Sunday, about $100/night more expensive than tent camping
Ben leaned toward this option because the weather is so unpredictable, but then decided not to be such a wimp

Brandon’s proposal:

Eric, Patrick, Brandon, Sequoia, and Ren should get us a great campsite on Thursday morning
Shelley and Ben should come up on Friday evening
Stay through Monday
Do YayLifeTri on Sunday

My intention for Sol 2014 at Lost Lake around the summer solstice is
to get enthusiastic about working on SolSeed projects again
to get more clarity about how to choose among the many possible projects I could devote time and energy to
to reconnect with people I haven’t seen in a long time (if they accept invitations)
to connect with nature
to find out how capable I am of coping with minor hardships related to living outdoors without losing enthusiasm
to further evolve our plans for how to bring in new active members, e.g. by practicing Holacracy

Brandon:

My intention for Sol 2014 at Lost Lake around the summer solstice is an embodied, visceral practice of SolSeed that writes the traditions of SolSeed on our hearts. I want us to DO things that are SolSeedian more than discussing philosophy. I want us to experience the gifts it brings to us right NOW rather than dreaming, speculating, and setting goals for the future. I want to pass on the love for nature and for Life to my kids. I want them to be earnestly self-expressed and vibrantly alive. I want to embed gratitude as a spinal cord practice … that is, something that is foundational, instinctual, and reflexive.

Shelley:

My intention for Sol 2014 at Lost Lake around the summer solstice is to deepen my understanding of and commitment to SolSeed and our community by spending time, separately and together, reflecting on our purpose, values, and praxis.
Secondarily, or rather, in addition I intend to create in our boys a yearning for what SolSeed offers and an understanding of our values, science, traditions and praxis, a sense of purpose and belonging, and a strong memory of warm, all-is-well cup-full fun and connection.

Brandon

Definition: pod - a group of 4-6 contributors that meets regularly for services and work bees (ideally weekly for both)
Policy: to be a contributor, you must be part of at least one active pod of contributors
Policy: each new member is assigned a sponsor
Role: Sponsor - responsible for showing hospitality to new members and helping them plug in with the parts of our movement that they are most interested in.
Role: Topical Ambassador - responsible for participating in a well defined topical community as a contributor in good standing

We’ve done something about this already … how is it documented?

Ben

Role: Videographer - responsible for internal video production activities, including live-action and animation
Role: Event planner - responsible for managing the process of planning and organizing major in-person events
Role: Scripture writer - responsible for maintaining and expanding the SolSeed body of scripture, including the Creed, the Book of Days, and the words for SolSeed Services
Role: Sysadmin - responsible for maintaining the hosting for the SolSeed web presence and ensuring the main solseed.org website is fully functional

Ben proposes using SolSeed funds to get Eric a landline Internet connection
Benefit: Eric will have a better and more consistent connection to Skype during services and work bees (especially useful for services involving shared rituals with visual elements)
Guesstimate cost: $40 per month ($10 per member per month)

Ben proposes creating an 8-page SolSeed calendar with our liturgical seasons
Benefit: Creates a visually appealing demonstration of our commitment to both deep-time thinking and honoring of the cycle of the year
Guesstimate cost: $1000 (mostly for getting high-quality images, with maybe a couple hundred for printing costs of a small initial run)

Ben … It felt good to be getting closer to a point where we are not so messy with our organizational process, but it also feels a bit like busy work, and I’m also excited about Sol 2014
