Ben is conflicted because his current phone company shares his politics and is a major force in progressive activism, but having a smartphone would have advantages
* Ben could get a smartphone from Credo, but then Brandon wouldn't get to have his old iPhone be reused (it's locked to AT&T)

** Ben: Hopefully our version would be different enough to not infringe their patent … also, NOAA probably wouldn't care enough to sue us
* Brandon thinks we could buy a sphere that comes in two pieces
** Ben wants one that's 75-100 cm
** NOAA's are super expensive and much bigger
** Brandon found a 24-inch foam ball for $62, but we'll try a cheaper 12-inch to test with

* Ben: Eric pointed out that if we just had a "naturalistic religion" event, with some "cherish the earth" themes mixed in that would be more likely to attract John Halstead and Mark Green
** And then if they commit, we might get Michael Dowd
* Brandon: This is tough
** I was excited about this because of the people I met at Pantheacon and Steven Wolfe, but I'm getting lukewarm responses
** I also have to think about how to make an event that will be pleasing for Shelley and the boys
** Intimating that big names might show up worked well for getting Recent Changes Camp off the ground … but I don't really want it to be that way for this event … I want it to work for regular people, not be about "rock stars"

* Brandon … I had too many browser tabs open … feeling like there's a lot to do, and enjoying it but feeling a little worried
* Ben … I sort of just want to quote/paraphrase Joanna Macy “Whether we feel hopeful or hopeless on any given day we should just be committed to the work” … and I feel like we’re committed to having an awesome event in August, so let’s just do it! Imagine if someone had walked up to Frodo Baggins at the start of his quest and asked “Do you feel hopeful?” Frodo would say something like “Get out of my way, I’ve got something to do!”
