== August event ==
Eric: On Friday, Brandon and I were discussing who to invite, and observing that Tribal Convergence is very big, and if they attended our event they would "flood us out"
* If we count "the Call" as just some vision, they get 3 out of 4 … but they aren't into space
* If we didn't invite them, would it be okay to include the phrase "Tribal Convergence" in our name?
** Ben: I like "Convergence" because of City Repair's Village Building Convergence events … but if we feel uncomfortable with it then "Tribal Festival" is okay
** Eric: I like convergence too because it says “this is more than a party.”
Ben: What do we want to say to potential co-conveners?
* Eric: It will vary according to which of the 3 out of 4 they are
* Ben: It might also vary according to whether they have children, seeing as the original vision is for children/youth to find their tribe
** Eric: Even "tribal leaders" who have no children will want to attract new members, possibly even those with children. But this vision of the event seems focused on the "living in community" aspect.
** Ben: It is possible for “find your tribe” to be defined as “here’s a membership organization I want to devote a lot of time to" rather than "I am going to move to e.g. Silverton and live in a commune.”
* Eric: The invitation should talk about the four pillars, and "we think you would make an excellent co-convener because of your support for these three pillars:... (yes, be explicit about it)
** Ben: I like that because it appeals to my value of honesty. I am slightly concerned that non-space enthusiasts in particular are less likely to be interested if we put that pillar front and centre. I am not saying hide it, just maybe not emphasize it.
** Eric: I think if they get there and there are space enthusiast groups there, and it wasn't clear that that was an emphasis, it will blow up in our face
*** Ben: even if the space groups in question are clearly ecologically minded?
** Eric: People might feel bad if they realize that not everyone got the same written invitation. Maybe focusing our effort on personal conversations would be better … and having materials we can send them with more details, which don't vary between groups … we could prepare scripts per group for how to talk with them over the phone or in person
Eric: I suggest focusing first on inviting John and Ruth Halstead, Jon and Heather Cleland-Host, Mark Green, and Paul Krafel … then if some of them commit, it could help draw in Michael Dowd and Connie Barlow
* Ben: Okay, so starting from the religious naturalist community … is there a good way to branch out from there to one of the more ecologically minded space groups?
** Oh yeah, I forgot John Halstead likes the Earthseed Destiny, so that will help
** Steven Wolfe talks about Gaia in his book, and Dr. Mautner could talk to the theologians about morals and ethics
* Ben: And what about the eco-groups that aren't religious naturalists?
** Trackers Earth might be easy because we could help them get more Portland-area customers
** Having the World Pantheism Network would be great because they post stuff that appeals to environmentalists all the time
*** Eric: And they're into space in the sense of revering the Universe … if not really in the sense of space travel
== Evaluation ==
* Eric … I feel relief that despite the fact that I slept a half-hour past the start time, we still managed to do this … I'm grateful for that … and I'm ready to go back to bed!
* Ben … I kind of like that we picked one thing to focus on. And I am looking forward to making more progress on this event that is coming up sooner than we might realize
== Closing Blessing ==
We close this circle having striven toward The Destiny, having cared for the earth and having taught our elephants to care for our little community. We carry these feelings of connectedness and accomplishment until we can do this again. Blessed Be.
