The fifth [[Liturgical Season]] runs from the summer solstice to mid summer (approximately August 4th) and covers the rise of intelligence. What are the major advances during this period. Warm blooded-ness, social interaction, tool use, language?

Here is [[Eric]]'s draft of the opening ceremony for the [[Weekly Service Calls]] during this season:

:Instinct ... still ... instinct ...
:And then ... <gasp> ... a spark!

:Amongst the conifers, flowers, grasses and cactuses,

:Minds watch and think.
:In the lush green forests, species are born.
:And for every species ... there is a story!

:Our story begins with warm blood, endothermy,
:The constancy that lets delicate brain cells flower!

:Next came society, groups living together.
:Both the shaper of behaviour
:and the environment in
:which behaviour can be taught.

:Then came tool use!
:The teeth we needn't grow.
:The hands with which to reach for the stars!

:Finally, humans began to speak!
:Turning knowdlege into a commodity,
:freely available to all learning children.

:Heat. Society. Tools. Speach.

:From instinct ... a spark!

[[Ben]]: Just a few small suggestions for the fifth season: Can we vary the word choice of “In the lush green forests, species are born,” which you’ve now used three times? Can we say “The sharp teeth and claws we needn’t grow,” to make it clearer? Are we reasonably sure that tool use came before language? Can we choose a slightly different word than “commodity,” which sounds too much like economics jargon? (I really love the “freely available to all learning children” part.)
