Community gives comfort and a sense of belonging and people are attracted by that. **Good Works: People are also easier to get with good works that we can point at. **Documentaton: Helps us explain ourselves to people and thereby attract them to us. *Money: We have proven that we already have the ability to pull some money together when needed. Money is not a goal in itself but it enables our goals See the sections on other resources and how it feeds them. But money could be gathered in larger quantities if we had other resources: **People: People are our current source of money. Each of the contributing members contributes money and so builds our treasury. **Place: If we had a gathering place then that would increase our credibility and our ability to attract donations. Also if we had a village we could use it as a place of industry or lodgings which could generate money. **Achievements would also increase our credibility to raise money With achievements behind us we could post our own KickStarters. **Community: again the credibility of a functioning community would help us raise funds. **Good works: again the credibility of good works would help us raise funds. **Documentation: any documentation could include a donation form to help us raise funds. *Place: A place that SolSeed could call its own such as a village or gathering place would be useful in defining SolSeed as a real entity in the real world. Such places would give us focal points and give others in other cities models to copy. But places need resources to achieve: **people; members can put sweat equity into building our places. **money: places are expensive; not just buying them but maintaining them and paying property taxes all costs money. **community: the need for a place will increase the more we feel like a unified community in one city. **documentation: if we want to achieve a place then designing it will be important. The wrong buildings can do more harm than good to our movement if maintenance costs outstrip the usefulness of them. *Achievements: Achievements are finished tasks of which we are proud: Things we can point to and say we did that. Accumulating any of the other resources would count and achievements are very similar to good works but there are achievements that are neither good works nor an accumulation of resources. Those are the achievementsI want to talk about now. They act as resources in that they are things we can point to to gain credibility and they are easier to accumulate if we have: **People: People achieve things and when they achieve things while flying the SolSeed banner then SolSeed can claim the things they achieve. **Money: People often need stuff, fuel, services in order to achieve things and money gets them those things; money helps SolSeed achieve. **Place: Sometimes a place helps people achieve things; a workshop, an auditorium, a laboratory. But much can be achieved without a place or with a borrowed place and a single-purpose place will force us to either achieve the same kinds of goals over and over again or end up sitting idle and costing us in maintenance and taxes. **Community: Community is people willing to work together and groups of people can achieve more than all the members of the group working individually **Documentation: Documenting what you want to achieve helps you achieve it; all the people in the community can work together to achieve the goal if they know what the goal is. *Community: Community is people comming together. If each member of SolSeed works away on his or her own toward goals we share then we will move forward but without community. Community synergizes the work of members. Community gives comfort and a sense of belonging. It is one of the necessary functions of a religion. **People are utterly necessary to community; without people there is no community. But creating a sense of community is more important than increasing the quantity of people. More people will help us accumulate a greater sense of community but there are other ways to work on community. **Money used correctly can increase a sense of community; If a member falls on hard times and is helped by the community then the whole community feels a greater sense of community. **Place: place helps form a sense of community, especially a place owned in common. Place can be a huge booster to a sense of community but it is also a very expensive way to achieve community. I find that more and more younger generations build their communities around electronic (virtual) places or borrowed places (e.g. they meet at a favorite pub and if the pub disappears the community moves to a different pub). **Achievements: Achievements achieved by the community working together will increase the sense of community but achievements achieved by a single member of the community will have only a tiny effect on the community. **Good Works: Good works achieved by the community working together or by the individuals representing the community will increase the sense of community. *Good Works: Good works are actions done by the community or individual members representing the community that have as their primary focus helping others who are down on their luck either within the community or outside the community. A community can achieve more good works when it has resources: **People: People do good works; when they fly the SolSeed banner as they do them, the good works become SolSeed's good works. **Money: Just donating money can be a good work but spending money to build something or advertise something and then using the something to do good work can multiply the effects of the money even more. **Place: Good works can be done in a place; One can give shelter or food from a particular place but again place can lock you into doing the same kinds of good works over and over again or turn into an expensive maintaince problem. **Community: Good works are easier to achieve with a group of people who have a sense of community: individuals are more likely to fly the SolSeed banner while doing good works if they identify as part of the SolSeed Community; individuals will be more likely to help each other within the community when they feel a strong sense of community. **Documentation: Documenting what kinds of good works we believe members should be trying to do may help guide members in doing good works. *Documentation: Documentation is any written matterial; such as this plan, the book, the wiki. It helps us direct our own work and keep our vision constant so that our striving advances the destiny! Creating documentation takes resources: **People: people write documentation. Noone outside SolSeed can write it for us without our input. Advertising agencies and management consultants and business analysts might write down what we say, structure it and organize it and facilitate us in agreeing to it and then give the language more flare but in the end it will take SolSeed members to feed them the content. **Money: we could hire advertising agencies, management consultants and business analysts to help us document our own vision and goals but it would probably just be expensive and no more productive than working on it ourselves. **Place: Place will not help us document; we are productively documenting using virtual tools **Achievements: if we have achievements to document; it is important to do so but we don't need achievements in order to document our vision **Community: The more voices we have documenting our vision the harder it gets to finish and agree upon the documents. It may be easier to document early before we have too many people and too much community. **Good works: like achievements, good works should be documented and therefore provide content for documentation but we can document our vision and goals without first doing the good works that they include. === Draft 2012 3rd Quarter Goals, due 9/30/2012 === * Book ** Yellow: *** Brandon ... 6 good hours *** Ben ... 6.5 good hours (breaks down to .5 hrs/week) ** Green: *** Brandon ... 12 good hours *** Shelley ... editing for 2 good hours *** Ben ... 13 good hours (breaks down to 1 hr/week) ** Super Green: Finish a draft of the book and get a hard copy *** Brandon ... spend at least 1 hr every week of the quarter *** Shelley ... editing for 4 good hours *** Ben ... add an image for every chapter * One-Page Plan development ** Yellow ...
