Campaign contributions are corrupting American democracy, and 2012 is going to be the worst example yet. Just one group, Karl Rove's American Crossroads, [http://www.fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2011/092011/09262011/654288 plans to spend $250 million] to buy our votes for Republicans. Democrats will do their best to follow suit. And while Rove may claim that "the Republican [presidential] candidate is going to have to make a reasoned, sensible critique of President Obama," his real strategy has nothing to do with reason. These hundreds of millions will be spent on persuasive but misleading ads that play on voters' emotions and try to convince us to do what they say without looking at the facts. But what if all that money went to waste because voters refused to be bought--because we refused to listen?
