Among other things, atheism is a sort of positive [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism nihilism]. Yes, if there is no God, then the universe wasn't made for any particular purpose, and our lives have no inherent goal. But we can make our own purpose; that is the power of the human mind, to find new reasons for being beyond simply obeying what our DNA tells us to do. Caring for [[Empathy|each other]] and for all [[life]] on Earth are two such self-made purposes. [[TheDestiny]] is another, and it may one day become the most powerful and central purpose of our civilization.
