November 24, 2013: Online Work Bee

Brandon ... 10-15 minutes away from having our new dryer installed (new washer is already installed) ... there was some upset involved in needing the replacement, but we're pretty happy to be almost done with that
Keith ... got some strawberries last Friday ... got a raised bed in the front of the lawn ... about half is food not lawn now ... lot of rain, putting in new growth (none seemed to die in shipping) ... goods for my import/shipping business (about ready to start selling on Amazon)
Ben ... I successfully biked 22 miles around the north end of the lake on the Burke-Gilman trail yesterday evening

Keith Spangle (original artist of plates for The Millenial Project: How to settle the galaxy in eight easy steps) ... we commissioned him to do a new picture of a rocket launch from the ocean ... includes a "flip ship" (capable of rotating one end down, filling with water and becoming very stable) and a wing-sail catamaran that transported the rocket
We're planning a fundraising campaign ... Randy found us an some artists who are taking some courses in video editing etc who will take our fundraising video on as a course project. We should be storyboarded and starting on some images.
Eric Hunting is still around
We recently had a revival of an occasional thread about adopting some of the best ideas from religions
We had a really long debate back in the day with William Gale who wanted to turn us into a religion
We have one member whose militant atheism makes him intensely resistant to this idea
LUF has looked at three models: Commerce, governments, or religions (long lived and can accumulate resources)
(e.g., some Chinese companies that have existed for almost a thousand years)

Goal is to create visceral empathy for the body of all life, in the same way you'd have empathy for a person
Keith agrees that audiovisual media are needed, due to people having a hard time visualizing things otherwise

Shelley is arranging the Music Together teacher to come, bring instruments etc, and lead the singing
We might need to find a replacement or do the music ourselves, but probably not

Ben: "SolSeed is a tiny quasi-religious movement. We believe that all life is precious, and that we should help it thrive, grow, and spread to the stars." Meets the criteria of 27 words, 9 seconds, 3 points.
The overloading of the word SolSeed causes a hitch in my giddyup when I'm listening to what you are saying.
Ben: the term "quasi-religious movement" is a bit awkward ... Brandon and Eric are using different terms ... I'm not sure exactly what I want to use
Keith: Maybe you need a new word altogether (they do this all the time in German)

Brandon: "SolSeed is a cosmic Wisdom Tradition whose central tenet is that Life, in all its messiness, is worthy of veneration. We seek to express Life's vitality through our practice, both individual and collective."

Later on his own, Brandon made the following revision:

"SolSeed is the body of all life. As a SolSeed Wisdom Tradition we have as our central tenet the judgement that Life, in all its messiness, is worthy of veneration. We seek to express Life's vitality through our practice, both individual and collective."
Ben: "We have our central tenet the judgement that" could probably be cut down to two words or so
Keith: judgement sounds like a negative word
Not including the space part: Brandon would like to have the conversation about how life's nature points toward expanding beyond Earth later, after establishing more common ground with the person he's talking to

Eric: "SolSeed is an agnostic religion. We believe that all Life is precious, that we should nurture lives, help Life thrive on Earth, and spread to the stars."

Keith: Do you have a "sea-first vs. space-first" schism like LUF?
Brandon: We don't have detailed plans for the long term, just an ultimate goal and a set of "what can we do now?" projects

A festival with different tribes, each bringing their unique offering, kind of like Burning Man
About self-expression and finding the people you want to work with, as well as collaboration between groups
Groups with long visions and lots of enthusiasm and creativity
Kindred means groups with the same core values, particularly "all life is precious"
Keith: LUF can talk about it, but I'd probably be the only member who would travel to attend this
There is a member named Chad in the Seattle area; also Reginald in Portland used to be involved

Ben ... I am pleasantly startled that we actually finished everything we needed to get done in 48 minutes
Brandon ... I enjoyed getting a fresh perspective and a window into LUF from Keith
Keith ... I enjoyed this. didn't know what to expect. think it is a productive format.
