Check-in
- Ben … I’m too sleepy to describe the march, but it was big … I think it is bad for me to have no deadlines in the morning and thus feel like I can hang around in bed for an arbitrary amount of time … I did have this call, but it still took me 45 minutes to get out of bed
- Shawn … I was going to go to a Women's March, but Portland is having 4 events with political strife between the organizing groups, and last year there was some violence … I'm going to a free martial arts class (baguazhang) this morning and I'm excited about that
- Brandon … I’m reminded over and over again of the finite resources I possess in terms of energy, time and gumption. I realized that I come across these limits, and today I am still optimistic and still excited to use my heartbeats, such as they are, for a great work. Holding both of those things, which feels good.
Opening Blessing
May we find grace when we fall short. May we hold each other up with expectations of greatness and yet support that which is. May we find compassion for each other and especially for ourselves. --Blessed Be

Basketball
- The 2nd-grade schedule only has one morning game, and Ren's games will be late morning, so no problem with services after all
Weekly Events Logistics
Service rotation: Eric, Ben, Shawn, Brandon, (Rico), Shelley
- Jan 27th Service: 8:30 AM PDT / 11:30 EDT … Rico? If not --> Shelley
- Jan 28st Business Call: 8:30 AM PDT / 11:30 EDT
Year Plan
Imbolc/Riverrain/RockSolidFrozenOttawaRiver
Date: Saturday February 3rd, 8:21pm PST / 23:21 EST
- Options
- In person (Ben, Sanders, Shawn, guests?) but moved to Sunday?
- Shawn would prefer this
- Some remote element and focus on in-person equinox?
- Ben may prefer this because he wants to go to a Star Community event on Sunday (which may not work out)
- Sanders have basketball 2-3pm and 4:30-6pm, which makes it hard to schedule things in the evening because Ren will be exhausted
- Plan for Saturday morning
- Shared outdoor service at the usual time (unless cell signal fails)
- Portland … Hike in Marquam Nature Park ending with deep-fried ice cream lunch at 11am or so
- Ideally use Marquam Shelter for the service
- Seattle … Hike in Ravenna Park ... could Ben invite others?
Spring Equinox
Date: Tuesday March 20th, 9:15am PDT / 12:15 EDT
- Options:
- Weekend Unconference on the weekend of the 17th or 24th
- The weekend of the 24th works best for Shawn because he's in all-day training on the 17th
- Could combine it with a visit to Sanders cousins in Seattle
- Just a celebration, day-of?
- Ben would rather not try an in-person celebration mid-week
- Unconference venue options
- Lobbyish spaces in Ben's apartment complex?
- A Star Community house?
- A makerspace?
- TODO
- Who to invite? People who resonate with us, including people in Seattle we'd otherwise never meet?
- Maybe invite Windward too?
- Topic that fits with our venue
- Ben: Something about building local ways of life outside the current paradigm? (Would dovetail with Shawn's Foundation concept)
- Brandon: Resilient communities (building them or transforming existing ones)
Evaluation
- Brandon … Excited
- Shawn … Energized
- Ben … Less Sleepy
Closing Blessing
May the ideas and energy continue to flow through us and create amazing things to shape the future. -- Blessed Be
