Opening Blessing

We come together to do the work. Though our efforts seem small before the size of the work we need to do, we have faith that as long as we push in the right direction, allies will emerge. --Blessed Be

WW(W)s from last time

  • Ben … indicate to Walt that Shawn would be happy to pick up the methanol … by soon

Would Eric be willing to travel to attend?

Gaia's People

Eric … I love the Gaia's People experiment

  • I like how it makes me care more deeply/viscerally about environmental issues
    • Ben … I think I already had that oddly visceral reaction to global-scale problems
  • I really love writing the Gaia prayers, and it bothers me that Shawn isn't attracted to the "mystical" exploration of the Gaia metaphor … then again, I'm not attracted to preparing for the apocalypse
    • Ben … I care about both

Eric … We haven't done much with it, e.g. rebranding the website

  • Ben … We didn't rename the SolSeedCreed we're using, or even create a Gaia's People wiki page
    • But I have renamed the newsletter

Ben ... I like the Creed revision because I like using Gaia instead of SolSeed to mean "the body of all life" (the latter always seemed a bit arrogant to me)...but on the other hand I feel weird about "dedicating ourselves to Gaia" given that she's just a metaphor

  • Eric … We're dedicating ourselves to the real thing that Gaia is a metaphor for
  • Ben … In general, I could go either way on the name from a personal perspective

Ben … I'm wanting to try to recruit people who are really into science, and I can see the more Pagan feel of Gaia's People being a problem for that

  • Eric … I haven't noticed a change in my word-of-mouth recruiting efforts … they didn't work before the name change and they still don't work now … I've never met anyone who was really interested
    • I do still have to point them to the SolSeed website/wiki, which is confusing after calling the group Gaia's People
  • Ben … maybe I want to go back to looking for another name altogether
    • Eric … we didn't have much luck last time we tried that

Evaluation

  • Eric … It was nice to be able to talk with a friend, I really appreciate that
  • Ben … With 4 people who sometimes attend the business calls, it really bothers me that we're doing so poorly with them … but this meeting was good, and I'm glad that we're keeping it going

Closing Blessing

For the first several decades of its life, a young tree often grows very slowly, trapped in the deep shade under the forest canopy. If allies of our movement are slow to emerge, it doesn't mean we're failing. May we be patient, like a tree. -- Blessed Be
