Check In

  • Eric … I am exhausted because we got lots of rain today and I was worried about flooding, so I shoveled snow to clear drainage paths for the water

  • Brandon … the Gaia video is awesome
  • Ren … Hi
  • Ben … I registered for the Contact Conference today and spent the rest of the time looking for inspiring videos to show at a Sierra Club event. Contact Conference is in the Bay area in April.

Weekly Events Logistics

Midweek

  • January 14 Work-Bee: 6:30 PM PST / 21:30 EST

Weekend

Service rotation: Eric, Ben, Shelley, Brandon
  • January 16 Service: 9 AM PST / 12 EST … Brandon
  • January 17 Business Call: 5:30 PM PST / 20:30 EST

Winter cross-quarter

Thursday February 4th (actual moment is early morning)

  • Do we want to celebrate on Saturday the 6th?
  • Thursday evening might kind of work, Friday evening more likely if we want to get people other than core members

Things to do

Portland Schedule (PST)

  • 2:00 Hike at Lower MacCleay Park
  • 3:00 Hot Chocolate at Dragonfly Cafe or Helen Barnhard bakery (or Powell's Books, where we could also play games)
  • 4:00 Games at home … with ice cream with hot fudge?
  • 6:00ish Dinner at a Mexican place (La Careta in Portland) … maybe fajitas, deep fried ice cream

Could advertise as two meetups: "Hike and warm up after," and "Games plus dinner" … or have the dinner be its own event. Could use Gaia's People for the hike.

Gatineau/Ottawa Schedule (EST)

  • 13:00 Ski outing in Gatineau Park (need car and ski pass to access nicer trails farther from town)
  • 17:00 Dinner at Pancho Villa
  • 19:00 Boardgames at Auberge Paradis

Could advertise this as three separate events on meetup.com. Could use Gaia’s People for the Ski outing.

Rain hike (Atheopagan idea)

  • Less expensive than skating, and more appropriate to the West Coast climate
  • Eric might do a snow hike or cross-country skiing, although they are getting an unusually warm winter this year
  • Brandon likes Lower MacLeay Park (a ravine on the edge of Forest Park)

Games

  • Don’t Break the Ice
  • Insecta with the Trilobite expansion (2-8 players)
  • Evolution (2-6 players, could work for almost any of our seasonal celebrations)

Food?

  • The Saumurs always go to a Mexican restaurant that serves deep-fried ice cream, hot chocolate with whip cream and sizzling fajitas … combination of hot & cold relates to the melting of the ice at the end of the last Snowball Earth
  • Drinks made from melted snow in Gatineau?

Ceremony?

  • Make up some words to say to commemorate Conflatorium?
    • Or just use the existing service
  • Pagany circle-type thing
    • What do Pagans do on Imbolc?

Seed Village update

The Sanders are pretty committed to OES and are probably going to end up moving … that might be an opportunity to get a property appropriate to the Seed Village goal

Getting Stuff Done

  • Ben: Could we switch from tasks to projects that we report on? Would that be more motivating?
  • Eric: My problem isn't motivation, it's being too busy to even look at my WWWs … I'm still in unpack mode and that's a big part of the problem
  • Ben: I do fairly well at WWWs but there are some I really don’t want to do like Topical Community Protocol
  • Eric: There are tasks that need doing in order to help each other work on our projects, which is where WWWs are helpful
  • Ben: Our self confidence in terms of being able to meet deadlines keeps getting ground down when we miss WWWs a lot
  • Eric: I think dropping the By When would help, except when there are handoffs / dependencies between people on a project
  • Brandon: I feel like I’m sort of treading water
  • Eric to Brandon: (picture of a life preserver)
  • Brandon: and don’t have a lot of motivation to work on our current projects. I don't really see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. My life is really full at the moment and the SolSeed stuff continually gets bumped. I do the things in it that bring me life, like the service calls and sometimes meditation; the projects just never make it high enough in my priorities. I've been working a bunch this weekend on work stuff, which makes me very jealous of my time. There's no contest between working on the Kickstarter or playing with my attention-starved child. I'm a little afraid of building a congregation around a Gaia shrine, because it would take a lot of time.
  • Ben: I feel like introducing a quote if we got to talking about concerning.ai … "Systems thinkers say that if you don’t like the behavior that arises within a structure, then change the structure rather than trying to change the behavior." … talking about the structures of our lives and changing those so that we can prioritize our highest aspirations and spend more time on them. So I probably shouldn’t have tried to propose some sort of quick fix. This really is the sort of thing that requires deep thought and strategic planning. Meanwhile, since I appear to have more time available than either of you, Brandon if you want to send the contact info for Oberon Zell I’d be happy to contact him, and I can also read the Kickstarter rules.
  • Eric: No, I'll definitely read those rules by next call. I can do it on the bus or something.
  • Brandon: I'll email Oberon and Devera.

Evaluation

  • Ben ... I was feeling really frustrated today but by the end of the call I was feeling somewhat less frustrated, so that was good I guess
  • Eric … I am feeling inspired … that last bit, the kick in the pants I got from it was really good … before the move I was really excited about the Kickstarter … the quote from Paul Krafel really helped
  • Brandon … Yes, I have been stuck and I just need to get moving and I feel like you jolted me and that doing one thing this week (emailing Oberon and/or Devera) will help me get going.

Closing Blessing

We came together to kick each other, hopefully in the pants, hopefully to unstick us. We come together to support each other also. May we be for each other, the glue that sticks to us our purposes, that budges us when we are stuck, that inspires us when we are tired.
