Weekly Events Logistics

Service rotation: Eric, Shelley, Brandon, Ben

  • March 1 Service: 9:00 am PDT (12:00 EDT) (Ben) (Fourth Week of Conflatorium)
  • March 2 Work-Bee: 1:30 pm PDT (16:30 EDT)

Equinox

Thursday March 20, 11:57 EDT / 8:57 AM PDT

  • Should we celebrate it at the right time, or wait for the weekend?
    • Brandon doesn't think he can do it on Thursday
    • Eric agrees that the weekend would be better
  • So let's aim for Saturday night, March 22

Storytelling and sushi feast

  • Eric hasn't started writing his story yet, which is unusual
  • Brandon needs to check with Shelley before going ahead
  • Ritual?
    • Brandon suggests tipping our bodies to represent the Earth's tilt

Plan: Send the invitation (including a Meetup) after next week's call

  • Brandon wants to get Shelley as involved as possible, so she may write an initial version of the invitation before the call
  • Brandon also wants to invite people from UU and suggests Eric do the same

2nd liturgical season

The season of Conflatorium is the second liturgical season in the SolSeed Movement's Liturgical Calendar. It symbolises the emergence of complex life from Iceball Earth 590 million years ago. During this season the Weekly Service Calls may use the following draft Opening ceremony:

We gather to mark the passing of a week
To align our hearts as one.

(Light the Sol candle)

(take an ice cube from bowl and hold it in your hand)

Ice ... just ... ice ...
and then ... [gasp] ... Melting

(Drop the ice cube into warm/hot water)

Warm Sun! Open Water! Dry Land! Scented Breeze!
The sea teems with new lifeforms ...
As the ice melts, they emerge to tell their story!

(pour the ice cubes (or big block of ice) that have things (e.g., trilobites) frozen in them, into the bowl of warm water)

Cells transcend themselves
Uniting with multitudes of sisters to become something more;
Complex life explodes into a dazzling diversity of forms!

(Participants clasp hands, or join two hands clasped if you are alone)

Next opens the mouth, the first structure,
Both the feeder of animals,
and the singularity that
gave animals direction.

("Chase" and then eat some food, e.g. seaweed, suishi, shrimp, or goldfish crackers ... participant's choice)

Then come the senses!
Taste, smell, sight, touch, hearing
((Put fingers on mouth, nose, eye, temple, and ear, thus touching all five senses))
The sensing which gave the first animals reason to swim.
The sensing which still directs us today!

Finally, Animals secrete calcium,
Armour, Shells, Teeth, Bones,

(Shake the fossil shakers)

Massive, piling, surfaces fold through open water,
A billion allies emerge,
Life learns to make new reefs, new worlds,

(building motions of one hand on top of another going up up up?)

Cells Join to Cells. "
"Mouths. Senses. Shells.

From silent ice ... teeming reefs!

(schooling fish motion where each finger is a fish)

Website and Orientation Emails (review and next steps)

Passion email

  • Ben revised one sentence:

However, we must acknowledge the existence of other passions that make this road difficult to follow, such as the drive for safety, the desire for comfort, the fear of failure and ridicule, and the demand to maintain our habitual patterns of action.

  • Ben chose an image: 182008843

Website

  • Ben verified that it works in Firefox and IE

Evaluation

  • Ben: I'm always sad when we say something is going to be short and it ends up being long ... I guess kind of the same deal as with work-item time cost estimates at work
  • Brandon: I always love talking to you guys and working on stuff ... I love it.
  • Eric: I actually kind of like it when we end up focusing on one thing for most of the call ... there's anxiety about the stuff we're not getting done, but it feels more productive
