Weekly Events Logistics

Service rotation: Eric, Shelley, Brandon, Ben

  • February 22 Service: 9:00 am PDT (12:00 EDT) (Shelley) (Third Week of Conflatorium)
  • February 23 Work-Bee: 1:30 pm PDT (16:30 EDT)

Children International

Brandon's advice to Ben on how to write a letter

  • Don't talk about helping Jordan go to college yet
  • Talk about how being a mathematical physicist would be awesome
  • Send a picture I drew

Eric wrote his first letter yesterday (very short because it has to be translated)

Brandon and Shelley have written one letter so far and will work on the next one soon

Gaia's Heartbeat and the website

  • Brandon wants to post the video as private and start sharing it with specific people
    • Eric will work on the description for the YouTube video

"Viewed from the distance of the moon, the astonishing thing about the earth, catching the breath, is that it is alive."

— Lewis Thomas, The Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher, 1974.
  • Brandon wants to get our website into better shape before we make the video public
    • Move SolSeed.org to SolSeed.wiki and Join.SolSeed.org to SolSeed.org
    • Brandon's startup's first client is the people who registered the .wiki top-level domain

Orientation Emails

  • review Eric's
    • Ben: Add links? e.g. about Paul and "what is entropy?"
    • Brandon: Call to action was good
  • review Ben's
    • Brandon: Is a desire for safety and routine a "passion?" I guess that's how we use the word, to some degree
    • Different call to action from the one in Eric's email?
      • Here’s an easy next step you can take: like our Facebook page, so you can get occasional thought-provoking SolSeed posts in your newsfeed, complete with beautiful photos.
    • Better photo?
      • Eric: Maybe a wilderness sport like mountain-climbing
      • Brandon: Something artistic, like throwing a pot
      • Ben: Someone making art outdoors?
      • Brandon: I prefer closeups where the person's face isn't visible, so you can project yourself into the activity

Next steps

  • get Eric the full resolution photo
  • mail-chimpify Eric's email
  • add links to the email

Kindred Venues

  • We took some WWWs
  • For this summer, or possibly next winter, Eric proposes a retreat at Lake O'Hara

Holacracy experiment

Eric, any thoughts? Need more than 20 minutes to explore it.

Evaluation

  • Ben: I think the drip emails could be really cool. Little worried about how little time we are giving ourselves and about whether people will just ignore them or think they are some kind of weird New Agey self help thing...
  • Eric: I felt a lot of trepidation coming into this meeting (worried about how good my work was) ... but I feel good coming out of it ... I feel like we are going somewhere and I feel like I can get my WWWs done this week
  • Brandon: So many exciting things in progress! Slow and steady, keep making progress and it adds up..
